Hillsdale Elementary School is located on W. Market Street on the edge of downtown West Chester, PA.Hillsdale is one of 10 elementary schools in the West Chester Area School District. It first opened in 1976 to grades Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Instead of having classrooms with closed walls and doors, it has open classrooms, and a tri-level space turned into what they call "pods." Hillsdale will also celebrate its 30th anniversary this coming year. In 2002, it won the Blue Ribbon of National Excellence Award, and has remained the school's main legacy. The school colors are green and white, and the mascot is the Huskie.
After 5th grade, like other elementary schools in the district, students move on either one of two secondary tracks. 70% moves to Peirce Middle School and Henderson High School. The other moves on to Stetson Middle School and Rustin High School.
The mission of Hillsdale Elementary School, an open and collaborative environment, is to ensure each child is educated and inspired to reach his/her full potential through both the use of challenging and diverse curriculum that recognizes different learning styles and abilities, and a shared partnership among educators, families and the community.
